Our head instructor, Scott Romiza (Rokudan, 6th-degree black belt), has trained in Uechi-ryu for over 30 years — 10 of those years spent training in Okinawa under the legendary Seiskin Shirado and Kiyohide Shinjo.
He is joined by a powerful team of black belts, including:
• 1 Yondan (4th-degree)
• 3 Shodan (1st-degree)
We teach the way Kanbun Uechi intended — no gimmicks, no fluff. Just real martial arts.

Uechi-ryu (上地流) is a traditional style of Okinawan karate. Originally called Pangai-noon, or “half-hard, half-soft,” the style was renamed in honor of its founder, Kanbun Uechi, after his death in 1948.
Kanbun traveled to China at age 19 to study martial arts and medicine, returning to Okinawa to pass down what he learned. His son, Kanei Uechi, expanded and refined the system, keeping the tradition alive.
Uechi-ryu Karate combines the tiger, crane, and dragon techniques to form a close, brutal style of combat that emphasizes body conditioning and powerful self-defense.
Walk-ins welcome.
